Sausage Roll with Marinara Sauce

For my UK Friends across the Pond
Back when I had Facebook, I used to be a fan of LadBaby back in the day. He’s a vlogger on YouTube along with his wife. He was always playing pranks on his wife and shared his love of sausage rolls. I remember watching a video of him in Ibiza on holiday. I can’t remember how long ago it was but he was on a mission: A mission to find a sausage roll. Lucky for him, he found a supermarket selling British products and and his beloved sausage roll.
I do not know what prompted the emergence of that memory. But it started me off on my own mission of making my version of a sausage roll. Hopefully, I made my UK friends proud with the final results!
Ingredients
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 1/4 cup of finely minced onions
- 1 pastry puff roll
- For the marinara sauce: Click here
- Mixture of 1 egg and a splash of milk
Instructions
Combine all the ingredients for the sausage in a bowl then transfer to saran wrap. Gently roll it into a cylindrical shape. Spread out the pastry puff on a cutting board covered in a little flour. Place the sausage roll onto the pastry puff and when it reaches the end, baste with a mixture of egg and a splash of milk to seal it. Coat the top of the pastry puff with the same egg mixture. Also careful not to make the sausage meat too large as it needs to thoroughly cook.
Place in the fridge and allow to rest 1 hour
Bake at 400 F for 25 minutes on flat sheet tray
Then transfer to a baking pan with a wire rack for an additional 10 minutes ( helps avoid soggy bottom)
Enjoy!
